![]() ![]() Sherlock is unique in the way it adapts the tales of Conan-Doyle, and the chemistry between Cumberbatch and Freeman is electrifying to watch on screen. ![]() It is therefore a testament to the Sherlock’s quality that it can still produce high viewing figures and generate so much discussion over so few episodes.Īs mentioned, episode three of the series provoked much confusion, drama and tension featuring the ‘return’ of a familiar face which was sure to shock viewers. For it is the case that most American television imports on British screens feature a multitude of episodes, with some reaching 24 total episodes for just one series. It seems quite uncommon that a series with a pitiful total of only 9 episodes over a 3 and a half year period should be able to draw in such large audiences whilst also maintaining such a large fan following – despite so little to offer in terms of quantity. You’d be forgiven for thinking that the series had reached its peak of bizarre and bewildering moments with the penultimate episode, but as it turns out, the concluding episode of the series offered the most confusing plot yet.Īs some of us undoubtedly wept over the imminent arrival of the end of series three (which started and finished within 2 weeks) there was nothing left to do but get in position for Sunday’s episode of the popular BBC series. The series certainly didn’t hold back on the laughs as the second episode featured an inebriated Sherlock and equally drunk Watson, trying to discover clues late at night at a woman’s apartment. So, would Sherlock be attending the wedding? Oh yes! Watson asked him to be the best man cue unsurprising numerous insults from the detective and a rather more surprisingly touching speech. If you thought writers Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss were done there, then you will have been sorely mistaken, as episode two of the series offered the wedding of Mary & John for viewers to marvel at. ![]() As the episode concluded it certainly left viewers questioning whether they would ever truly find out how he did it and perhaps more importantly: what could the rest of the series hold? ![]() The first episode featuring the return of the high-functioning sociopathic detective took viewers on an emotional rollercoaster ride as viewers saw bickering and fist-fighting between Watson and Holmes, numerous theories about how Sherlock managed to survive his ‘jump’ from the top of the Hospital roof and more fan-pairings come to life on screen than you can probably bear. The scene was set as audiences took their seats at home to revisit 221B Baker Street an audience averaging of 9.2 million viewers, in fact. As series three prepared for its ascension onto British TV screens, the air was clouded with anticipation about how Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) managed to fake his death at the end of series two – and how John Watson (Martin Freeman) would react to his return. Also known as the series where fan fiction and reality collided, the third series of Sherlock brought more thrills, beguiling moments and sheer hilarity than ever before. ![]()
